Since releasing ‘Good Ol’ Fashioned Love’ in November last year the male quintet’s star has risen meteorically with sales of the album already passing the 200,000 mark and their first headline tour selling out instantly. As well as inspired interpretations of hits from yesteryear, including The Darts' ‘Come Back My Love’ and The Chords’ ‘SH-Boom (Life Could Be A Dream)’, The Overtones’ impressive armoury includes the co-written album title track and their own timeless compositions ‘Carolyn’ and showstopper ‘Gambling Man’.
Having been performing in pubs and clubs as a four-piece for four years and, with the addition of bass Lachie Chapman, as a five-piece for two years this is no overnight success:
'We’ve been working towards this for a long time but the last six months have been a complete whirlwind. We're living our dream and it's just incredible! We're now number 4 in the album charts after being in the top 10 for 3 weeks. We have to keep pinching ourselves” enthused falsetto Darren Everest.
The Overtones, who blend classic 50s’ harmonies with modern pop, completed their debut headline tour this week to rave reviews. Bristolian Mike Crawshaw said “We've loved being on tour and having the chance to get up close and personal with the audience and to thank our fans for their great, great support from the very beginning!”
With the announcement of the autumn tour The Overtones, who recently performed as the house band on Dancing On Ice, are looking forward to bringing their blend of old and new sounds to these larger venues. “We're thrilled to announce our autumn theatre tour,” said Mark Franks. “We are performing in some truly incredible and iconic venues including The London Palladium, a place where legends have performed for many, many years, so we're honoured to be treading those same boards!”
Asked what the fans can look forward to Timmy Matley revealed “You can expect a big musical show that gets you dancing in the aisles! There will be a few surprises, some beautifully tailored suits and some slick moves! Our shoes are shined and are dickie bows are tied so get set for a night to remember!”
Prior to the autumn tour The Overtones will be performing at the Magic Summer Live concert at Hatfield House, alongside Sir Elton John, at the Proms In The Park and Glorious Goodwood and release their new single, their version of the Billy Joel hit ‘The Longest Time’, on April 25th.
The Overtones are Timmy Matley, Mike Crawshaw, Mark Franks, Darren Everest and Lachie Chapman.
